fabulous friday finds

i haven't done a fabulous friday finds post in a while, so i thought i'd show you all a few great bargains i found today. i really love finding great deals. it's kind of like a treasure hunt and you just never know what you're going to find.

i know a lot of people don't care for jcpenney,
but i have always been able to find amazing deals on cute things there.
everything is usually on sale and they send out coupons like crazy.
anyway...i went there for something else completely and ended up with the following three great deals:

really, who doesn't need a big rose red bracelet?
i plan to wear this with a black & white dress and a red flower headband.
with the two coupons they let me use on my three items,
this bracelet ended up to be $4.84!

this was something i found as i was about to leave.
the color is much prettier in real life and it's so soft.
this season i am all about flowers and ruffles.
total for this was $9.09.

they are having an amazing shoe clearance too.
my sister has these and they are just too cute. i couldn't believe i found them in my size.
total cost--$7.27! yippee!
after i picked up mck from school, we headed to office depot to get her a binder for orchestra and a locker shelf. office depot has a reward program and i got my reward in the mail the other day ($10.81)
total for these items--$5.73.

then we stopped by michaels to find a flower for me to make a headband out of and they were having a 90% off sale on summer stuff.
i found this cute birdhouse for $1.99
and the coffee cup planter for $1.49!

i found these the other day at plato's closet, a resale shop here, and they were $6.
i am also all about cute flats with cardigans this fall!
(mckinlee said they looked like an old lady, but i don't think so. if you do, please don't tell me!)

well, it was a good thing i "saved" so much money today
because in 3-5 days i will be the proud owner of this....

!!!

i am so not a gadget person.
i don't have an ipod, we don't have a gaming system of any kind, at the moment we don't even have a working tv in the living room!
but my sorry phone (lg vue--don't ever get one) completely froze on me. didn't even last 2 years.
i am not picky about phones. i just want one that makes calls, texts and works.
but after a lot of research, reading reviews and talking with a friend of ours who works for at&t, we finally decided to go with the iphone.
and now, the more i read about it, the more excited i am getting!

i'll let you know if all the hype is really true...

the first day of school

what?
my baby is in 6th grade?
how could that be?

it truly feels like mckinlee was just getting ready to start kindergarten (actually, it feels like she was just born. but i digress.)

she was really nervous about going into 6th grade and going to a new, big school.
here she is sunday night getting everything ready.

and here she is monday morning loading up her backpack.

new backpack, new folders, new notebooks...makes me seriously giddy!

she decided she did not want me waking her up in the mornings.
she set her alarm--for 6:50. she was in the kitchen making her own lunch when i woke up.
i went upstairs and her room was already spotless and her bed made!
do i know you?

we moved around a few things. she wanted this little area for her calendar, chore chart board and nightstand.

(i have begged her to get rid of that little recliner in the corner and she won't. it was darling when she was 3 but i told her it's time to move on. for now...that's a no-go!)

our traditional picture by the front door

and one of the backpack.

i have to say, there was a big discussion the day before about me going in with her or just dropping her off. she wanted me to walk in with her but when we found out that her friends from our congregation were or had in the past just been dropped off, i persuaded her to just let me drop her off.
(that was hard...because i really did want to go in with her. but i thought it would be good for her independence and confidence to do this by herself.)
i wish i could have taken a picture of her getting out of the car and walking into school, but it was kind of hard being in the drop off lane.
i also have to admit i drove away in tears because she looked so nervous and scared. i swear this was harder than leaving her for kindergarten--driving off as she walked into the unknown world of middle school!
but i also knew she would be fine.

a friend of mine had planned a little mom's breakfast, but as you can see only 3 of us showed up!
it was fun anyway--we went to this mexican place and had wonderful breakfast taquitos.

i was on my way to the att store to look for phones since mine is toast and on the way there i drove by my favorite resale shop and saw these signs...
again--that giddy feeling.
they have great prices anyway and every month they have a 50% day, but today every piece of clothing was 75% off!
i ended up with a skirt from ann taylor loft, and one from new york and co., a beige tee and a cute jacket/vest thing for fall...all for $10!
so exciting.

oh, by the way...when i picked up mckinlee she said,
"i love 6th grade and i love my locker!"

yes, it looks like this will be another great year.

Disney-Day 7

day 7--it's finally over!
these are just a few pictures as we left to come home.

this pretty painting in the lobby...

i didn't get all the sign, but it said
do not touch or eat the artwork.
this entire picture of michael jackson is made with candy--everything. click to see it bigger. it was actually pretty cool!

we went to a really nice breakfast at the hotel since we had so much time to kill.
mckinlee got these:

and made her own when her glass dripped some water.
she happened to look down and see that the water drops had fallen in just the right spot for mickey ears--too crazy!

and cute waffles too.

a picture of us by the fountain right before we left.

then someone walked by and took a picture of all of us in our disney attire--not too over the top. but we did have to wear something "touristy" home!

a quick picture of the entrance of the disney property as we left.

we got to the airport really early, so mckinlee had time to kick off her shoes, get comfy and sort through all the pennies she pressed at disney.

as at the beginning of the trip, my accountant is keeping all of our expenditures nicely organized and up to date!

mck with a treat to keep her happy on the plane.

and that, my friends, is it!
(there were no other pictures of our trip home because i was so sick all the rest of the way home. without tmi...that airplane bathroom and i became good friends! ha!)

we had a fabulous time and now i can't wait for things to settle down so i can do a scrapbook of our vacation.

switching gears...tomorrow is the first day of school!
mckinlee (or skye as she will be going by this year!) will be going into 6th grade and i don't know who is more nervous--skye or me!
we are getting things ready as i type, so i better go iron her first day clothes now.
i was just thinking this morning how i loved when she was little before she started school and the first day of a new school year meant absolutely nothing to me. it seemed like summer went on until winter came.
our summer, however, has now come to screeching halt and i'm a little sad, but kind of ready to get back to some sort of schedule!
will try & post pictures tomorrow of her first day.
