the monday update

this has been a "stay at home" kind of weekend. i haven't felt like doing much of anything so i spent most of saturday in my scrapbook room. i organized and threw away a lot of stuff and made cards with mckinlee.
here are some of the cards i made:

this a collage of pictures from florida that i recently found a frame for and hung. i also found this old tape measure that i think was my dad's that i added to the frame.
evidence of my cleaning out. the top shelf is for my stampin' up stuff. the second shelf is for new items that i haven't used yet and shelf 3 & 4 are completely empty--yay! (don't worry-i'm sure they will soon be filled!)
i've been organizing this shelf of scrapbook items by color. it's taken a long time and i'm still not done. the little blue buckets have acrylic stamps and blocks in them and the wooden box is filled with cards i've made.
mckinlee loves to make cards too and is so creative! (looks like someone needs a new polish job)
the weekend has also included a lot of blog surfing. this is one of my favorite blogs--now i just need to make some of wonderful things on it!
i've also been reading a lot. just finished this book--it was pretty good.
because i start coughing inexplicably out of a dead sleep, i have been moving to the guest room so i won't keep chris up all night! (2 things i cannot possibly sleep without...my contoured pillow and my mask. chris tells me he feels like he's sleeping with the lone ranger. ha!)
didn't feel like going to the meeting on sunday, so mckinlee and i called in and listened over the phone--so glad we did. we heard a wonderful talk about god being the grand creator and a lesson about jesus' role as the messiah--all while sitting in my comfy chair wearing my slippers!
FINALLY, started feeling better on sunday evening. chris left for a business trip to delaware so mck and i got take-out. me=pei wei, mck=freddy's. the spicy korean is my favorite. i really need to try something new, but every time i go i always get the same thing. their chocolate chip cookies had just been baked and were still warm and i stopped at joanns on the way home and got a new scrapbook magazine i'd been wanting. so it turned out to be a pretty good night.
i've got a busy week ahead. mckinlee's book fair is this week and i'm working 3 days of it. that will be fun and hopefully, i'll feel ok.
have a good week!

fabulous friday finds

well, this has not been a good week. what i thought was just a lot of drainage down my throat has turned into a sinus infection. no fun. i am trying to treat it with natural and over the counter meds since i refuse to be put on antibiotics again. then last night i realized i had pink eye. again. no fun. at least i have the medicine from the last time i had it. ok. enough of my pity party.

today my find is a wonderful new blog i found. it's called (oh, hello friend.) you are loved.
it is just a beautiful creative inspiration blog.
she finds the most amazing photographs. these pictures are all from her site.
(she has documented where they all came from if you want to know. i just felt too bad to do it this morning!)
aren't they gorgeous? she does a lot of giveaways and fun stuff like that! i always feel so inspired after i read her blog.
check it out if you get a chance!

have a wonderful weekend. i (and my pink eye) will try to do the same!

Project Life Tuesday-Week 6

here are my pictures from week 6. to see how other fellow "project lifers" have documented their week, head over to The Mom Creative.

someone last week asked what kind of camera i used. (sorry i didn't respond personally, karina.) i am a canon girl through and through. i started with a little film camera and swore i would never go digital! now i have an eos digital rebel xs. i got it last year for my anniversary gift and i love it!

2.10.10
wednesday
i had to go down to crate & barrel this morning to get a couple gifts. this place fills me with bliss. even if i didn't buy a thing for myself, to wander through this store makes me happy!

2.11.10
thursday
it had been snowing hard all day, unbelievably. this was record snowfall for texas, i think. i went outside around 11pm to take a picture of our house. it was so bright from all the snow, it looked like early evening. we just stood at the windows staring outside--it was so beautiful!

2.12.10
friday
this was the second no school day because of ice or snow this year. mckinlee loved playing in it!

2.13.10
saturday
with all the bad weather, we were afraid we might not make it to waco to see sadie. but we did and had a wonderful weekend with her (and everyone else too!)
oh my goodness! baby feet have to be the sweetest thing ever!

2.14.10
sunday
sadie went to her first sunday meeting today. she looked so adorable in a pink and gray dress, white tights and gray ballet slippers that stayed on maybe 3 minutes! she was so good and slept the whole time. here she is after we got home.
2.15.10
monday
before we left, we were trying to take some pictures of miss sadie belle. it didn't go so well. it's hard to get a naked baby to sleep, take her blanket off, put her on a stack of towels in vintage basket and get great pictures. this sweet child that almost never cries was screaming by the time we were done with her. (before you judge us too much, we were in a bathroom with a heater on and immediately stopped the photo shoot when she started to cry!)
anyhow, how could you not get a good picture with a precious child like this? i don't know which one to pick for my picture of the day...
the black and white?

or the color?

2.16.10
tuesday
mckinlee and i have decided to start a new hobby--knitting. several of our friends are so talented and knit beautiful scarves. we decided we wanted in on that action! as you can see, we haven't gotten very far!

thanks for looking at my week! see you next tuesday :)

snow white

well, for all of you that did not just realize that today, not yesterday, was thursday--you've got it more together than i do! hope i didn't confuse anyone else with my "thursday" post yesterday :D

this is what we woke up to this morning. i was so hopeful they would cancel school (and the meeting tonight since i have a talk-ha!) but it doesn't look like either one will happen! apparently, there is no icing just snow--and it is beautiful! it is still coming down so fast and the flakes are huge!
this is out my front door:

i usually just take "snow" pictures out my front door and end up with the neighbor's house in my picture. while their house is pretty, i don't particularly want to remember a snowy day this way...so i suited up this morning (i should have taken a picture of what i looked like!) and went across the street to get a picture of our house in the snow.

these awful pear trees even look pretty when they're covered in snow!

by the time i got to the backyard, it was really coming down.

funny story: chris is working from home today since he didn't want to get out in this. when we woke up, i immediately got on the school's website to see if they delayed or closed school. i knew they hadn't since we didn't get a phone call from the automated service, but a girl can always hope! i told chris school was on and since he was staying home, he could drive mckinlee. he couldn't believe they hadn't at least delayed school and said if mckinlee wanted, she could just stay home. i went to wake her up and said that they were having school, but she could stay home if she wanted. do you know what her response was?

"no...i want to go to school. it's p.e. day....and math."

can this possibly be my child?

first, any chance to stay home from school was eagerly received by me.
second, p.e. and math are her deciding factors. really? i mean, maybe english lit or french, but p.e.?

(i told her if she stayed home i would have her run up and down the stairs and we could do lunges, but i guess that doesn't compare to "station day!")

this child continues to surprise and confound me every day!

(judging from the joyful screams and yelps i hear outside right now, apparently the neighborhood kids do not value p.e. and math as much as mckinlee.)

have a good day! (i almost said weekend. see? i'm still a day off!)

thankful thursday

happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
~nathaniel hawthorne~

i've neglected my thoughtful/thankful thursday posts for a long time. how sad--especially when there is so much to be thankful for!

today i am thankful that my biopsy came back clear and i don't have to have another mammogram for 6 months!

what are you thankful for?

Project Life Tuesday-Week 5

another week has flown by. amazing how fast time goes by when you're an adult!
sorry i haven't really blogged much. keeping up with my new schedule leaves me little time to take pictures and post blogs. and if i do have time, i'm too tired to blog and just read other people's instead! :)

2.3.10
wednesday
i got this fabulously easy recipe off of becky higgin's blog and changed it just a little to make these wonderful cookies. (recipe below*)
2.4.10
thursday
it was our monthly girls breakfast. sadly only 3 of us were there but it was still fun. this is a self-portrait before i left.
2.5.10
friday
mom and i before she left to go home. if i look a little rough, it's because i had just come from having my biopsy done. i hope none of you ever have to have one. it was not a pleasant experience. but at least my mom was there!

2.6.10
saturday
it was chris and mckinlee's self-proclaimed "father-daughter day" mckinlee realized she had never been bowling, so that was her choice. they had a great time and were both pretty tired when they got home! chris said she is a pretty good bowler!
not the best picture, but when you're relying on the kindness of strangers, you'll take what you can get! i was thrilled they even got a picture together!

2.7.10
sunday
while chris and mckinlee bowled yesterday, i made cards and watched movies. these are some of the ones i made with a kit i'd never used from stampin' up.

2.8.10
monday
a friend of mine here makes beautiful, unique jewelry. i had gone over to her house months ago and ordered this gorgeous necklace and just picked it up today (it didn't take her that long, i just never got around to picking it up!) it's grosgrain ribbon with cream-colored leather flowers. isn't it pretty?
2.9.10
tuesday
mckinlee's bras hanging on her bedpost. chris and i just hate this! last night when he was telling her goodnight he asked here if she was ever going to put them in a drawer. he then asked me if i'd ever taken a picture of it, so i knew i better get one before she puts them up! he told her this might prove to be embarrassing when she gets old! hee hee.

*chocolate cake cookies
1 box chocolate cake mix ( i used betty crocker super moist triple chocolate fudge)
2 eggs
1/2 c. oil
1 cup heath toffee bits
mix all together. bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.
you can change the cake mix or the toffee bits for chocolate chips, nuts, andes mints, reece's bits--anything! these are the easiest and tastiest fast cookies.

thanks for stopping by~see you next week!

fabulous (wednesday) finds

this post is mainly for danielle who wanted me to post some of the cute things i found today. most of these things are from jcpenney, a couple are from wal-mart and target. if you haven't been to penney's lately, then you must get yourself there as fast as you can! they are having their end of season clearance and TONS of stuff is marked down 80%. i decided i was not leaving that store without skinny jeans and leggings. i got that & lots more stuff. i had 2 different coupons they let me use & i figured i saved about $250! and i spent under $60. amazing, right?

this darling little short dress will be worn over jean-type leggings and boots.

this one will be paired with the long black leggings a few pictures down.

isn't this adorable? i got gray leggings to go with this sweater-dress for a monochromatic look.

this cute shirt will be worn over a long-sleeved blue shirt and skinny jeans.

cute brown cord skirt (it was $3!!!)

here's my first pair of skinny jeans!

these leggings are made out of a very thin, soft sweater material and i loved the buttons on the bottom.

i got this at target the other day--it came in several colors, but i loved the cream one.

apparently, i'm on a sweater kick! i got a cute gray tank to go with this one.

and finally...some cute shoes that were clearanced at target. won't these be cute with some pretty tights and a pencil skirt?

hope you liked my purchases!
